Sustainability at Bath Christmas Market

Bath Christmas Market has ambitions to be one of the most sustainable festive events in the UK. We are taking many steps to reduce the impact that our event has on the environment and work closely with our suppliers and stallholders to achieve this.

1. Our Electrical Supply

We use mains electricity to power our market and illuminations where possible, and we aim to be a generator-free market within the next 5 years. Where we need to use generators, we use HVO generators, making us a fossil-fuel-free site.

2. Single-Use Plastic

Where possible, we use reusable or environmentally-friendly alternatives to single-use plastic and the same goes for our stallholders. Where we have to use single-use plastic on site, we opt for biodegradable plastic or plastic that can be recycled where we can.

3. Reusable Cups

All of Bath Christmas Market's catering outlets will be offering 50p off hot drinks if visitors bring a reusable cup. This is in a bid to reduce the amount of waste that we use on-site

4. Keeping things local

We love championing local, independent businesses and want to give back as much as we can to the economy of Bath and surrounding areas. We work with suppliers local to Bath and our event crew is also from Bath and surrounding areas, meaning our travel time is low. We also have a huge 85% of stallholders based in the South West this year!

5. Stallholder Products

Each stallholder must be as committed to us in their environmental policies and share our vision to be one of the market leaders in sustainability (pun completely intended). We prioritise stallholders with sustainable and fair-trade products that make a conscious decision to have a business that gives back to people and planet.

6. Getting around the site

Our staff and stallholders can access an e-cargo bike to help with any transportation of stock and equipment. This reduces the number of cars within the city centre and ensures our site remains largely car-free during opening hours.
