Planning a festive getaway to Bath but not sure how to get here? Wondering the best ways to get about the city?
Here's our quick guide on travelling to and in Bath, and how to find us in our winter wonderland no matter where you're coming from:
Park & Ride
Bath's three Park & Ride services operate seven days a week, with buses typically running at least every 15 minutes and taking just 10 minutes to get you into the city centre. Between Thursday 23rd November and Sunday 10th December, these services will be running more frequently than usual to meet demand for the Christmas Market. At the busiest times of the markets, some services will be running as often as every 4-5 minutes.
All buses are fully accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs.
We recommend the use of Park & Ride services to reach the city centre in order to avoid charges related to Bath's Clean Air Zone.
Trains and Buses
Bath Spa railway station is located in the city centre and is barely a 5 minute walk from the Christmas Market and many of the city's other attractions, linking Bath to Bristol, London, Cardiff and beyond, courtesy of Great Western Railway. Regular services from London Paddington can land you right in the heart of the city and just moments away from the Christmas Market in approximately 80 minutes.
As well as a taxi rank immediately on the station's doorstep, Bath Bus Station is not even a minutes walk away, offering regular transport around the city and to neighbouring areas. A direct service is available to and from Bristol Airport for those visiting from overseas that couldn't resist Bath's festive temptations. Once you're here, you can even enjoy a city sight-seeing tour bus to witness all of Bath's historic beauty while soaking up the Christmas spirit.
You can use the First Bus App to view bus stops and routes, track live buses and purchase tickets.
Coach
Coach services provide regular and great value travel to get you to Bath. They can be super convenient for those coming from abroad, with frequent services running from London Heathrow Airport and London Gatwick Airport to Bath Bus Station.
On street coach bays are available for drop-offs and pick-ups in the city centre, close to many of Bath's iconic landmarks and the Christmas Market, while Odd Down Coach Park offers a place to stay for longer periods.
This map of bays and parking in Bath can help you plan your visit by coach.
Car
Although we encourage the use of public transport, we are aware that many may opt to travel in their own vehicles. Bath is located just ten miles from Junction 18 of the M4 motorway which runs directly from London and Heathrow Airport, with Wales just a short drive further west. There are also motorway links from the north and south of the country via the M5.
Please be aware of the Clean Air Zone now operating in the centre of Bath. Charges apply 24/7 to all higher emission vehicles, except private cars. Again, we advise utilising Park & Ride services for travel into the city centre. Otherwise, you can find your most convenient parking using this map, and view live updates for spaces in Bath's main car parks - including the Park & Ride sites - here.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
